In our tent at NTC we had a squad of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) guys. Working in three-man teams, they specialize in defusing and destroying land mines and IEDs. EOD units were made famous by the 2008 film The Hurt Locker, in fact, the sergeant in the above photograph personally knows the guy whom the filmmakers supposedly based the movie off of. Anyways, they train for about a year to be EOD-qualified, and there are only two EOD brigades in the whole Army. Defusing the IEDs (or “interrogating” as they say out here) sounds like a nerve-racking task, so I’m glad we have guys who can do it. I think they have a cool job.
